4 Ceremonies and 2 Days in Pune: My Best Friend’s Big Fat Indian Wedding!
My Best Friend’s Big Fat Indian Wedding!
Approaching deadlines, corporate meets and presentations – the stress of my corporate life was taking a toll. Amidst all the hustle and bustle of my hectic schedule, my mobile rang incessantly! To my surprise, my best-friend broke the news of her much awaited wedding to her childhood sweetheart. Not only was I excited and happy to hear the news, I was also quite thrilled by the thought of her destination wedding in Pune.
Three months down the line, the D date was right around the corner and we headed to Pune from our home town, Bombay. By the afternoon, we landed in our hotel, The Corinthians Resort and Club. Its Greco-Egyptian style was indeed a welcoming sight! After a refreshing siesta, the 2 families reunited for a sumptuous dinner. Lively conversations animated the bistro. After a scrumptious dinner, we retreated to our well-appointed rooms to gear up for the Sagan function the following day. Unlike the décor of any other banquet halls in Pune, our hotel’s hall was fairly well bedecked, complementing the outfits of the couple. After the two exchanged rings, all the youngsters danced tirelessly to the foot tapping music played by the DJ. A steady flow of drinks and delectable dishes at this event venue in Pune, kept us going.
In the wee hours of twilight, we all gathered for a fun-filled Sangeet and Mehendi Ceremony by the poolside. This event venue in Pune had fine mehendi artists and band organizers. The venue was beautifully festooned according to the theme “Bollywood Night” with posters of popular Bollywood movies and characters. The couple looked every bit like Raj & Simran from the famous song “Mehendi Lagake Rakhna” of the cult Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Banters, grooving to popular numbers, late night party and delectable dishes – each element was simply superb; leaving us with a treasure of fond memories.
We woke up the next morning eagerly excited for the wedding day. After a delicious breakfast at Cupola, we headed to our rooms to get ready for the Haldi function. Brightly lit with warm yellow lights, this banquet hall in Pune was adorned with beautiful jasmine and marigold flowers. The stage had been partitioned into 2 sections to host the Haldi of the groom and bride. After the Haldi, my best-friend’s Churha function was also held here. After this function, we all danced to the traditional Punjabi wedding songs like ‘Chitta Kukkar’ and ‘Baajre Da Sitta’ sung by the elders of the family. After lunch, we headed to our rooms to gear up for the big fat Indian wedding. Impressive fireworks, festive vibe, joy on everyone’s faces, an impeccable décor and an array of lip smacking meals – everything was just like a perfect fairytale wedding!
